Dear ICMAH Members and Museums Professionals

The International Committee for Collections and Museums of Archaeology and History (ICMAH) of International Council of Museums (ICOM) launched in 2017 a working group on “Sports Museums”. Since time, leaded by Marie Grasse and Burçak Madran Sports Museums’ working group organized each year a thematic workshop during the annual conferences of ICMAH and several webinars during and after the pandemics.

Sports Museums are highly popular and independent bodies in the world of museums. Being inclusive of all historical thematic and heritage, ICMAH identifies sports museums as an official group inside the committee and undertakes the mission of representing this special kind of museum in ICOM.
After 8 workshops and 4 webinars, we are organizing in 2024, an event with wider participation on the Paris Olympics. We will evaluate the sporting heritage and legacy that are inherited after worldwide sporting events. We will share the experiences on the subject and run debates about sports heritage in museums.

ICOM ICMAH invites you to participate in the Exclusive Conference about WORLD SPORTING EVENTS AND LEGACY – THE DEBATE AFTER THE OLYMPICS following 2 themes:

• The mutual influence of the evolution of sporting practices on heritage
• The future of sports infrastructures as heritage environments.
